Renting vs. Buying

Greetings Guys and Dolls!

I hope everyone out there on the interwebs enjoyed the Holiday Season; only two days left before the New Year, which means now is the time to start thinking about those resolutions.

With the end of 2013 rapidly approaching many young professionals are looking at 2014 as the year they finally “buy that dream house,” or for some “have enough saved to move out of mom and dads place.”  The big question is, “do I buy, or rent?”  Everyone you know will have an opinion on what you should do, but the truth is, you need to talk to a professional about your best course of action.

This is where I come in ;-)

Don’t get me wrong, I am a novice when it comes to Real Estate Nitty-Gritty, but I work with the best of the best.  As someone who is on the fence about buying or renting next year they are giving me brutally honest answers about the Pros and Cons of both.  This is what our Buyer Specialist, Sharon aka The Shopper, briefly had to say on the subject:

Buying:
The Shopper – “It is a good idea to purchase now if you can.  You may be pleasantly surprised and need less money then you think.  Talk to a mortgage representative to see if you qualify.  In some cases you only need to put down 0%-3.5% as a down payment.  An advantage of buying is you will have home equity.  You should consider security, your lifestyle, and if you plan or residing in an area for three to nine years.”

Renting:
The Shopper – “Renting is good if you don't plan on residing in an area for too long, or if you're still unsure of the area you want.  An advantage to renting is that you do not have maintenance costs, and the security that you pay is returned to you if no damage is done.”

To be honest, I am extremely nervous about taking the next steps down the Real Estate Path, but I know I’m not alone.  My teammates are called experts for a reason, and I value the knowledge they share.  It makes walking down this road easier on my feet (and wallet!).

Please feel free to comment and talk about your own adventures down this particular path.  Take care everyone and have a safe and happy end of the year :)

Always,
